FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
At this page you can find the most frequent questions. If you think questions/anwers are missing please let us know. By sending a message at the contact page.
Where can I find documentation?
The user and administration manuals can be find in Cyclos under the menu Help - Manual. All Cyclos documentation (installation & maintenance, configuration, programming guide etc) can be found at the Cyclos Wiki.
Is Cyclos available in my language?
Cyclos is currently available in English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Russian, Greek, Chinese, Japanese and Dutch.
The language is 'system wide'. In order to change the language log in to the administration section and go to: Settings - Local settings - Internationalization - Language (you have to select first the 'change' button at the bottom of that page in order to be able to make the change).
The initialization process of Cyclos will create a new database if there is not one. In order to create the default database in a specific language you have to select the language if it is any other language than English (which is the default). This is explained in the help.txt in the root directory of Cyclos.
Where can I find support?
A Cyclos forum exists for support and functionality issues. If you want to post messages you will need to ask for a login at this page. Details about support are listed at the Support page.
Where can I host Cyclos?
Any provider that can host Java applications and MySQL can host Cyclos. Current providers are:
Digitekst www.digitekst.com - International hosting and customization.
Tele select www.tele-select.at - Hosting for German speaking countries.
SEDAT GmbH www.sedat.de - Hosting for German speaking countries.
Jelastic jelastic.com - A cloud hosting company that offers Java hosting. See online tutorial.
If you are interested in offering Cyclos hosting please message at the contact page.
What is the current stable version?
The current stable version of Cyclos is 3.6
Information about the packages and download location can be found here.
When will the next stable version be ready?
Cyclos is a large project and a new version involves a lot of testing. It is very difficult to predict when the next version will be ready. The response therefore is: IIRWIIR (It Is Ready When It Is Ready)
Cyclos is written in Java, is Java knowledge needed?
For using and managing Cyclos no knowledge of Java is needed. All configuration and customization can be done directly from the administration panel. With the 'stand alone' version Cyclos the installation and maintenance can be done without any Java knowledge.
How can I contribute?
There are various areas where contribution is very welcome like testing, translation of new languages, programming and funding. Please post a message at the Contact page if you are interested in contributing to Cyclos.
We need some extra function, can you program this?
We get many requests for new functions and it would not be impossible to add all of them to Cyclos. Cyclos has many functions and we take much care that new functions fit well into the system and do not conflict with existing or possible future functionalities. Before suggesting new functions it would be good to have a thorough look at the current funtionalities. Many times specific requirements can be solved using existing functions. We tried to make Cyclos as flexible as possible and by changing the configuration there are more possibilities than persons assume.
If you want a new function you can put a suggestion on the forum and we will look at it. Over the last years we have implemented many feature requests that were suggested on the forum. But we have our own deadlines and cannot fulfil all requests. We do not any commercial programming so if you really need a function that is not planned than the only solution would be to program the function yourself. If the funtion is a usefull addition or improvement we will consider to add it to the main release. Be aware that Cyclos requires high level programming. At the other hand, there is complete documentation and if you have an experienced java/web programmer it can be done.
